EMU Student-Athletes Post High Marks in the Classroom

Student-athletes at EMU scored a 3.226 GPA in the latest term
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University student-athletes had another outstanding semester in the classroom last winter, finishing with the third-highest term GPA in school history at a 3.226. Overall, it was the 19th semester in-a-row EMU student-athletes have earned over a 3.0 GPA, the EMU Student-Athlete Support Services office announced today, May 15.
Additionally, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was the department's all-time best tally at 3.270.
"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This success is a reflection of highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and student-athlete support services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Of the 435 student-athletes enrolled at EMU in the fall, 299 (69 percent) posted a 3.0-or-higher grade point average for the term. Furthermore, a total of 309 student-athletes (71 percent) hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
For the semester, women's golf led all sports with a team GPA of 3.770 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Women's gymnastics (3.612) was next, while women's soccer (3.518) and women's swimming & diving (3.518) tied for third. Baseball (3.487) and women's track & field (3.405) rounded out the top six programs for the fall semester.
Women's golf posted the second-best semester GPA in EMU Athletics history, bettered only by a 3.792 GPA by the women's tennis team in Winter 2006. Football also set program records for both semester and cumulative GPAs, having raised its overall cume GPA in 19 of its last 23 terms. Furthermore, a total of 16 EMU athletics programs finished the semester with cumulative GPAs better than 3.0.
Additionally, there were 31 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by gymnastics which had five.
