The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team concluded its time at the Ohio State University Winter Invitational Sunday, Feb. 17, in McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The final day saw four Eagles record career-best performances, along with each student-athlete recording at least one season-best effort throughout the day's events.

Recording EMU's top finish of the weekend was sophomore Riley Hofmann (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Center), as her 200 Individual Medley season-best time of 2:09.04 earned her a second-place overall finish. Hofmann also recorded a season-best time in the prelims of the 200 Backstroke, tapping in at 2:06.74.

Junior Marcella Da Costa (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil-Colégio Dom Bosco) closed out her time in Columbus with a career-best performance in the 200 Butterfly, touching the wall in just 2:04.90, good for a sixth-place finish in the A Final. The Rio De Janeiro, Brazil native's effort was more than four seconds faster than her previous top Fly, set earlier this season against Bowling Green, Jan. 26.

Both sophomore Abby Rapien (Cincinnati, Ohio- Taylor) and junior Sydney Thomas (Jamestown, N.Y.-Southwestern Senior) earned their top performances in the 1650 Freestyle, as Rapien earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 17:12.62 and Thomas touched in just behind her at 17:25.50, good for ninth place. Rapien also recorded her personal-best effort in the 200 Fly prelims, finishing seventh with a time of 2:06.57. Her prelims time of 2:04.25 bested her previous personal-best effort by .67 seconds.

Rounding things out for the Eagles were junior Arianna Ortiz (Jupiter, Fla.-Jupiter), senior Rebecca Winnert (Buffalo, N.Y.-Williamsville), and sophomore Hunter Ignasiak (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford), earning seventh, ninth, and 21st-place overall finishes in their respective events. Ortiz recorded her top collegiate performance in the 200 Breaststroke prelims with a time of 2:24.67, and her final heat time of 2:27.38 earned her a top-10 finish. Winnert gathered a season-best swim in the 200 Free prelims, tapping in at 1:53.15 for a spot in the A final, and edged out competition from Cincinnati to claim ninth. Ignasiak used a 24.96 time in the 50 Free prelims to qualify for the C Finals, where she finished first with a time of 24.79, besting swimmers from Miami and Purdue. Her 200 Free prelims time of 2:03.22 was also her 2018-19 top performance in the event.

EMU has a 10-day hiatus before it competes in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Akron, Feb. 27 through March 2.
