Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are senior cross country student-athlete Natalie Cizmas and senior football student-athlete Kobie Beltram.
Kobie Beltram
The Eastern Michigan defense was stout against Northern Illinois, Nov. 19, as the unit racked up five tackles-for-loss. Senior Kobie Beltram led the defense effort with a team-high 10 stops, two TFLs, and a sack. Beltram leads all Eagles with 104 tackles on the season, while his 9.5 tackles per game is good for fifth in the conference and 20th in the FBS. The Antioch, Calif., native has registered a team-best 21 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, and two sacks during Eastern's last two games, both victories. Eastern Michigan is bowl eligible for the second consecutive year, and for the third time in the last four seasons, both feats that have never been accomplished in the program's 128-year history. The Eagles will have a chance to earn their seventh win against Kent State University, Friday, Nov. 29, in Ypsilanti.
Natalie Cizmas
Senior Natalie Cizmas earned an individual bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships following her weekend performance at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Cizmas is the only EMU harrier to take part in four NCAA Championship races, after competing at the title race each of the previous three seasons. Cimzas paced the Green and White at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison Wis., Nov. 15, where she finished a career-high 10th place with a time of 20:33.3. In her previous outing, she posted the second-fastest time at the MAC Championships in DeKalb, Ill., Nov. 2, to earn first team All-MAC honors as the Eagles became the first women's cross country program in MAC history to win five consecutive conference titles.
