Wilson Named Associate Athletic Director for SASS

The Willingboro, N.J. native previously worked at Penn State, Saint Louis, and Louisville
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Kellynn Wilson, the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at Penn State University, has been named the Associate Athletics Director for SASS at Eastern Michigan University, Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced today, Oct. 2.
"Our Eastern family is tremendously excited to welcome Kellynn to Ypsilanti," said Wetherbee. "EMU Athletics has a long history of our students achieving in the classroom and this is an additional step to further prioritize academics for our student-athletes. She stood out as the type of passionate leader that will push our student-athletes to achieve new levels of success in the classroom and beyond. "
In her new role, Wilson will be part of the department's executive staff with oversight of academic services for all of EMU's 18 Division I sports. Wilson will guide development and implementation of programs and services that support academic achievement and integrity as well as contribute to the personal growth and career development of EMU student-athletes. She will also serve as the department's primary liaison for academic matters to multiple university entities including admissions, registrar, provost, undergraduate studies, faculty, and academic advisors.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the Student-Athlete Support Services Department for Eastern Michigan Athletics," Wilson added. "My goal is to provide a wholistic approach that assists student-athletes in attaining academic success, positive decision making, and leadership skills that can be used throughout life. Under Scott Wetherbee's leadership, I know that this athletic program will reach new heights and I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside the wonderful EMU Athletics Administration, as we continue to create an environment where we positively impact the lives of our student-athletes."
Wilson spent the past five years at The Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pa. in a number of roles. Most recently, as the Associate Director at the Morgan Academic Center for Student-Athletes, she provided direct support for the men's and women's basketball programs as well as oversaw the educational programming and curriculum development of eight student-athlete transitional courses.
In her role at PSU, she supervised seven course instructors, two full-time staff members, as well as two academic support assistants and was an integral part of all matters pertaining to the student-athletes academic goals and performance.
A native of Willingboro, N.J., Wilson came to Penn State in the fall of 2014 after a stint as the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services for Saint Louis University. In that role, Wilson was responsible for the administration and oversight of all aspects of student-athlete academic support and student-athlete development for all 350 student-athletes at SLU.
Wilson began her professional career at the University of Louisville, first working as a compliance assistant in 2005. She joined the Olga S. Peers Academic Center for Student Athletes in 2007 as an academic counselor before being promoted to assistant director in 2011. Additionally, Wilson was a lecturer/instructor in the Health & Sports Studies Department from 2008-13.
At Louisville, her primary responsibilities were advising football, women's basketball, women's volleyball, and men's soccer.
Wilson is a 2017 NCAA Leadership Institute alumna as well as a 2013 N4A-Professional Development Institute (PDI) graduate.
Currently pursuing her doctorate in education, Wilson earned two degrees from Louisville, a bachelor's in exercise science (2005) and a master's in education (2008).
