Tretter joins the swimming coaching staff after a collegiate career at Cleveland State

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University swimming head coach Derek Perkins announced the hiring of Maddie Tretter as an assistant coach today, Oct. 10.

"Maddie brings great energy and will add tremendous value to our program," said Perkins. "I can't wait for Maddie to work with our women and provide another level of leadership for our team.  I am very excited to welcome Maddie to the EMU swim family."

Tretter is a former Division I swimmer, specializing in breaststroke at Cleveland State University. While a Viking, the Zelienople, Pa. native set the school records in 100 and 200 breaststroke events, was awarded the James LaMastra Award, and qualified for the U.S.A. Swimming National Qualifiers.

"I want to thank Derek and the athletic department for this amazing opportunity," began Tretter. "I am so incredibly excited to be a part of such a successful program with such a strong history. I am already so impressed with this tough group of ladies and am thrilled to be a part of all of their successes this year!"

Along with her swimming background, Tretter comes to Eastern Michigan with experience in the strength and conditioning field. After completing an internship with strength and conditioning department at her alma mater, she spent the past year at Total Pursuit Athletics.

Tretter holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from Cleveland State, which she earned in 2018.
