Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are women's basketball athlete, Natalia Pineda, and men's basketball athlete, James Thompson IV.
Natalia Pineda
Sport: Women's basketball
Position: Guard
Year: Freshman
Major: Nursing
Week's Achievements: In her second career start and her first conference game, Natalia Pineda turned in quite a showing to pace Eastern Michigan. The Miami, Fla. product led the Eagles with a career-best 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while also tying career-highs in three-pointers made (4) and rebounds (8). She is the fifth Eagle to lead the Green and White in scoring this season.
James Thompson IV
Sport: Men's basketball
Position: Forward
Year: Senior
Major: Biology
Week's Achievements: Eastern Michigan senior forward James Thompson IV earned his fifth double-double of the season in EMU's MAC opener against No. 20 Buffalo, Friday, Jan. 4. His 12 rebounds led all Eagles while he was one of just three members of the Green and White to score double-digits points, finishing with 11. The Baton Rouge, La. native has now garnered double-doubles in three straight games and his season total of 139 rebounds is the third-most in the Mid-American Conference. The senior needs 184 rebounds to become EMU's all-time leader.
