EMU Student-Athletes Post High Marks in the Classroom

Student-athletes at EMU scored a 3.232 GPA in the latest term
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University student-athletes had another outstanding semester in the classroom last fall, finishing with the second-highest term GPA in school history at a 3.232. Overall, it was the 18th semester in a row EMU student-athletes have earned over a 3.0 GPA, the EMU Student-Athlete Support Services office announced today, Jan. 17.
Additionally, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was the department's second-best tally at 3.260.
"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "This success is a reflection of highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence. I'm especially appreciative of our coaching staff who recruit strong students and create team cultures that value academic success, as well as our outstanding professors and student-athlete support services staff members who are on the front lines in providing a first-class education."
Of the 476 student-athletes enrolled at EMU in the fall, 326 (68 percent) posted a 3.0-or-higher grade point average for the term. Furthermore, a total of 340 student-athletes (71 percent) hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
For the semester, women's soccer led all sports with a team GPA of 3.607 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Women's gymnastics (3.585) was next, while women's cross country (3.584) was third. Women's golf (3.552) and baseball (3.498) rounded out the top five programs for the fall semester.
Baseball, men's cross country, and football each set program records for cumulative GPAs. Furthermore, a total of 15 EMU athletics programs finished the semester with cumulative GPAs better than 3.0.
Additionally, there were 46 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by football, women's swimming & diving, and women's track & field which had seven.
