Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer athlete, Sabrina McNeill, and football athlete, Blake Banham.
Sabrina McNeill
Sport: Soccer
Position: Midfield
Year: Redshirt sophomore
Major: Elementary education
Week's Achievements: Redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) continued to cause opposing team's problems this weekend, leading Eastern Michigan University's soccer team to a 2-0 weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 2. McNeill played a role in each of Eastern Michigan's game-winning goals, assisting on one and scoring the other. Against Creighton, McNeill's free kick set up Tessa Osborne for the game-winner in the 90th minute to give EMU a 2-1 win. Then, Sunday McNeill found the back of the net herself, netting the Eagles' winning strike in the fourth minute. With points in each of this weekend's games, McNeill's point streak is up to three straight matches.
For the season, McNeill has scored two goals and added two assists, matching her total from a season ago. She also leads the category in both categories.
Blake Banham

Year: Senior
Major: Criminology and Criminal Justice
Week's Achievements: Senior Blake Banham (St. Paul, Minn.-Cretin-Durham Hall) caught eight passes for a 103 yards, both career highs, and a touchdown against Monmouth, Aug 31. Banham grabbed a 16-yard reception from senior Tyler Wiegers to open the scoring with against the Hawks. His longest catch of the night was a 30 yard strike as EMU set the program record for completion percentage at 81.5 percent (22-of-27). He also added a pair of punt returns for a total of 27 yards. His 103 yards receiving already surpassed all of his 2017 numbers in eight game played.
