EMU Inducts Five into Hall of Fame

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University E-Club Alumni Chapter, a group of former EMU varsity athletic letterwinners, welcomed five new members into the E-Club Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend. The Class of 2018 was honored at the Hall of Fame ceremony Friday, Sept. 29, in the atrium EMU Convocation Center.

The Class of 2018 includes: Virgie Bullie (W. Track & Field), Jordan Desilets (M. Track & Field/XC), Catherine Fortin (W. Golf), Korey Mahoney (M. Golf), and Andrew Wellock (Football).

In addition to the Hall of Fame inductees, the E-Club presented Eric Walline with the Ron Oestrike Distinguished Service Award. The award, named after former EMU baseball-coaching legend Ron Oestrike, was first presented at the 2008 Hall of Fame ceremony to Oestrike. The award is voted on by the E-Club Executive Board and is presented to individuals that have been instrumental in assisting the E-Club.
 

Virgie Bullie
Women's Track: Graduated in 1991…Earned two letters for the women's track and field team…Won the 100-meter title in the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships in 1987 (:11.87) and 1988 (:11.72), earning MAC First Team honors in both years…Won the MAC Outdoor 200-meter title in 1988 (:23.55)…Ran on two outdoor MAC champion relay teams, the 400-meter relay (1987 and 1988)…Member of the 1987 Indoor MAC Champion 1600-meter relay team…Three-time individual indoor MAC Champion, twice in the 55-meter dash (1987 and 1988) and once in the 300-meter dash (1987)…Qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 200-meter in 1988…Appears several times in EMU's all-time indoor and outdoor record books including eight top-10 records.

Jordan Desilets
Track and Cross Country: Graduated in 2005…Four-year letterwinner for the men's track and field and cross country teams from 2000-04…NCAA Division I National Champion in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase in 2004 (8:42.64), and was runner-up in 2003…Four-time NCAA All-American and 10-time Mid-American Conference Champion…Helped the EMU Men's Track and Field team finish 26th in the nation in 2004…Earned the 2004 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championship's Most Valuable Runner…EMU record holder in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase…One of five sub 4:00-milers in EMU history (3:59.83)…Competed in the Olympic Trial Finals twice in the Steeplechase…Won the 2010 Detroit Free Press Marathon with a time of 2:28:30 in his first attempt at running a marathon.
 
Catherine Fortin
Women's Golf: Graduated in 2009…Four-year letterwinner for the women's golf team from 2004-08…Recorded 116 rounds of golf with a scoring average of 76.79 for a career…Finished career with three tournament titles, 14 top-five finishes and 18 top-10 showings…Won the 2005 Match Play Provincial Championship in Quebec, Canada…Three time Mid-American Conference First Team Selection (2006, 2007, and 2008)…Named to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2007 while finishing runner-up at the MAC Tournament...Earned MAC Golfer of the Week five times during career…Held the lowest 18-hole average in school history at 74.96 strokes in 2007-08 – eclipsing her own school record set in 2005-06…Shot the lowest round in school-history with a 67 at the Rocket Fall Classic (Sept. 24, 2005)…Holds the lowest 54-hole tournament score at 214 (71-71-72) during the Shootout at the Legends (Oct. 8 , 2007)…Ranks in the top-10 of EMU's all-time record books in season scoring average, season win-loss percentage, career scoring average and career win-loss percentage.
 
Korey Mahoney
Men's Golf: Graduated in 2006…Four-year letterwinner for the men's golf team from 2002-06…Ranks second in school history in scoring average at 73.46 posting 9,403 strokes in 128 rounds…Won the 2002 Michigan Amateur Championship at Jackson Country Club…Competed in three US Amateur Championships (2002, 2003, 2005), US Public Links Championship (2005) and the British Amateur Championship at St. Andrews (2004); making it to the Sweet 16 in both the US Amateur and US Public Links in 2005…Selected as the Men's Player of the Year by the Golf Association of Michigan in 2003…Two-time Mid-American Conference First Team selection and Academic All-MAC (2005 and 2006)…MAC Golfer of the Year in 2006…Two-time Academic All-American (2005 and 2006)…Two-time NCAA Qualifier (2005 and 2006)…Held the school record for season scoring average with 72.2 set in 2005…Finished career with four tournament victories, four top-five showings and six top-10 finishes in his career…Ranks in the top-10 of EMU's all-times records several times including, two-round tournament scores, three-round tournament scores, season scoring average, season win-loss percentage, career scoring average and career win-loss percentage...Won the 25th Annual Tournament of Champions Title at Boyne Mountain in 2016 (64).
 
Andrew Wellock
Football: Graduated in 2007…Four-year letterwinner for the football team from 2003-07…Three-time All Mid-American Conference First-Team Selection (2004, 2005, and 2006)…Named Third-Team All-American by the Associated Press in 2004…Earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2004, 2005, and 2006 while earning CoSIDA Academic All-District Second-Team in 2005 and 2006…Selected as Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 21, 2004…Runner-up for the Lou Groza Award in 2004 as a sophomore; this award is given annually to the top placekicker in the NCAA Division I ranks, he was also on the Groza Watch List his other three years…Named Player of the Week four times during his career…Finished his college career as the second-most prolific kicker in MAC history with 69 career field goals and the fourth-best field-goal percentage at .795 (69-of 87)…Was the starting placekicker in all 46 games during his career and also handled the starting punting duties for two seasons…Named one of four collegiate kickers to participate in the State Farm College Football All-Star Challenge after his senior year winning the long-kick championship title…Appears over 25 times in the EMU all-time record books, holding the top spot in field goals in a season (21 in 2004), field goals made in a career (69), and career scoring (299).
Eric Walline
Oestrike Award: Participated in football from 1966 to 1969 where he was coached by Ron Oestrike as a position coach...Graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in physical education...Continued his education and graduated in 1978 with a Master of Arts in education psychology and earned a Specialist of Arts in school psychology in 1979...After graduation, Eric landed a job with the Monroe County Intermediate School District and in 2002, after 36 years working as a school psychologist, Eric retired from Farmington Public Schools.  Currently, Eric operates Gold Coast Charter Service, Inc., a fishing charter service out of Frankfort, Mich., on Lake Michigan since 1992...Eric's service to EMU is immeasurable as he has supported several initiatives of EMU Athletics and the Alumni Association.  More notably, Eric is one of the founding board members of the E-Club and still continues his service to the alumni chapter since its inception in 1976.  He also has served as president of the Huron Restauration Alumni Chapter, was elected to the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and was a part of Coach O's Dugout Club...Has many fond memories of his time as an athlete, and alumnus including witnessing the 1976 baseball team compete in the College World Series, the football team becoming the 1987 Cal Bowl Champions and the teams game at the 2016 Bahama Bowl.
