Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are softball athlete, Nicolle Miranda, and baseball athlete Luke DeVenney.
Nicolle Miranda
Sport: Softball
Position: Pitcher
Year: Junior
Major: Engineering
Week's Achievements: Junior Nicolle Miranda (Wilmington, Calif. / Port of Los Angeles) was outstanding in Eastern Michigan's final week of the season. Appearing in three games, and making two starts, Miranda struck out 11 over 13.0 innings of work. She scattered nine hits over the three appearances, including a four-hit shutout against Western Michigan, May 4. With the complete game win, Miranda registered her first shutout of the season and the fourth of her career, while snapping EMU's 15-game losing skid against WMU, which dated back to 2011. Her ERA for the week sat a 0.54, while opponents hit just .176 off of her. Miranda finished her EMU career ranked 11th in strikeouts (233) and eighth in innings pitched (443).
Luke DeVenney

Year: Senior
Major: Finance
Week's Achievements: Senior Luke DeVenney (Des Moines, Iowa-Dowling Catholic) had yet another quality start in a 5-2 victory over CMU, May 5. The senior went a career-high 7.2 innings, only allowing two runs on eight hits. He earned his sixth win of the season, moving to 6-1 on the year. It was DeVenney's 12th start in 12 tries this season in which he has not allowed more than three earned runs in a start. His efforts helped EMU to a 2-1 series win over the Chippewas, their fourth MAC series win of the season. DeVenney's ERA now sits at 2.61, including 1.67 in MAC-only games.
