The duo will join the Eagles for the upcoming season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Soccer Coach Scott Hall announced the addition of two players for the upcoming 2018 season. Joining the Eagles are Sarah Ash (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) and Haley Tausend (Deer Park, Ill.-Barrington (Eastern Illinois)).
The duo adds to an already strong incoming class that includes Simone Chiodo (Oshawa, Ontario-Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic), Emma Collins (Windsor, Ontario-St. Anne), Kylie Frantz (Erie, Pa.-Villa Maria Academy), and Lara Wheeler (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc).
"These two add to what is already a great class for Eastern Michigan," Hall said. "These two along with our four previous signees bring excitement, balance, and depth to an already great and talented young team."
Ash is a local product, coming to Ypsilanti from South Lyon, Mich. where she attended South Lyon High School. A four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for the Lions, Ash held down the backline the South Lyon defense. A three-time all-district honoree, Ash also reeled in all-conference and all-area honorable mention. She also lettered in basketball and golf during her prep career. On the links, Ash led the Lions to a state runner-up finish and third-place finish at state. Meanwhile, on the court she was named most improved.
A transfer from Eastern Illinois, Tausend joins the Eagles with three years of eligibility remaining. In her one year at Eastern Illinois University, Tausend appeared in 12 matches, making nine starts on defense. Totaling 891 minutes, the Deer Park, Ill. native tallied five shots, tow of which were on target, and recorded a goal. A product of Barrington High School, she was a three-time all-conference selection under Ryan Stengren, while competing against now teammate Madeline Olson. Tausend was also named all-area in 2016 and all-sectional in 2017.
The duo adds to an already stout roster that includes 95 percent of its goal production (20-of-21 goals) and 21 of its 23 letterwinners from a year ago. The Eagles are slated to begin the 2018 season at Purdue, Aug. 17.
