EMU Student-Athletes Post High Marks in the Classroom

Student-athletes at EMU scored a 3.174 GPA in the latest term
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University student-athletes had another outstanding semester in the classroom this winter, finishing with the second-highest cumulative GPA in school history at 3.259 GPA and the sixth-highest of any semester. Overall, it was the 17th term in a row EMU student-athletes have earned over a 3.0 GPA, the EMU Student-Athlete Support Services office announced today, May 10.
"Our student-athletes continue to perform at a high level in the classroom, and this semester is no exception," Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee said. "Our student-athletes put in a lot of hours to meet the high standards that come with wearing that Block E logo on their uniforms, and I want to congratulate them for their hard work in the classroom. It is also a testament to the hard work of our coaching staffs, professors, and the academic staff we have to help them be successful."
Of the 522 student-athletes enrolled at EMU in the fall, 352 student-athletes (67 percent) posted a 3.0-or-higher grade point average for the term. Furthermore, a total of 372 student-athletes (71 percent) hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
For the semester, women's golf led all sports with a team GPA of 3.664 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Women's cross country (3.674) was next, while women's gymnastics (3.658) was third. Women's tennis (3.610) and women's track & field (3.485) rounded out the top five programs for the fall semester.
Women's track & field and football each set program records for semester and cumulative GPAs. Of EMU's 21 athletics programs, 15 teams finished the semester with a GPA better than 3.0.
Additionally, there were 47 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by women's swimming & diving which had nine.
