Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are softball athlete, Amanda Akles, and wrestling athlete, Kayne MacCallum.
Amanda Akles
Sport: Softball
Position: Third base
Year: Junior
Major: Criminal Justice
Week's Achievements: At the final weekend of the EMU Madeira Beach Invite, junior Amanda Akles (La Habra, Calif.-La Habra) had a mammoth weekend at the plate. Akles led the Eagles in nearly every offensive statistic, as she hit a whopping .500 at the dish. Pounding out a team-high 10 hits over the three days, the junior notched 18 total bases, registered a team-high seven RBIs, and tied a team-high two doubles, all for a slugging percentage of .900. Against Alabama State, March 2, Akles went 3-for-4, including a three RBI-homer, the first of two over the weekend for her. The La Habra, Calif. Native's other home run came in the game versus Incarnate Word, March 4. Against the Cardinals, Akles solo homerun ties her for 10th in program history with 16 career home runs
Kayne MacCallum

Position: 184 lbs.
Year: Redshirt junior
Major: Finance
Week's Achievements: Redshirt junior wrestler Kayne MacCallum (Green Oaks, Ill.-Libertyville) took home the 184 lbs. title at the 2018 MAC Wrestlin Championships Sunday, March 4. It was the first individual title for the Eagles since 2009. MacCallum went 3-0 over the two-day span of the tournament as the No. 3 seed. He began the tournament with a 3-1 win, followed by a sudden victory triumph over No. 2 seeded Jordan Ellingwood of CMU to reach the finals. There, he dominated No. 4 seeded Bryce Gorman of NIU in an 8-2 decision to take the crown.
