James Thompson IV became just the third player in EMU history to reach the 1,000 point, 1,000 rebound plateau

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's basketball junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) joined the exclusive 1,000 point, 1,000 rebound club with his 11 rebound performance against Bowling Green State University Saturday, Feb. 10, but the Eagles fell to the Falcons in overtime, 70-63, at the Stroh Center.

EMU (14-11, 5-7 MAC) led by as many as 19 in the game, but a BGSU (15-10, 6-6 MAC) three-pointer with six seconds to go tied the game, and the home team outscored the Eagles 10-3 in overtime to send Eastern home with the loss.

Thompson joins EMU all-time scoring and rebound leader Kennedy McIntosh and Eagle great Brandon Bowdry as the only Eastern Michigan players to have 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career. The Baton Rouge, La. native now has 1,338 points and 1,008 rebounds in his three seasons with the Green and White.

Redshirt junior Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) was the only other Eagle to reach double figures in the game, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Fellow redshirt junior Jordan Nobles (Canton, Mich.-Canton) and redshirt freshman Ty Groce (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Lincoln) each added nine points.

Eastern played one of its best halves of the season in the opening stanza, shooting .565 from the floor and .500 from the three-point line, while holding Bowling Green to just .250 from the floor and .200 from the three-point line. Unfortunately, the comfortable 17-point advantage would disappear bit-by-bit in the second half.

BGSU systematically chipped away at the EMU lead, eventually bringing the game to the three-point margin in the waning moments. The Falcons did not attempt a field goal in the overtime period, but connected on 10-of-13 from the charity stripe, while holding the Eagles to just 1-of-12 from the floor.

Eastern was outrebounded 43-32, including 14-8 on the offensive boards. The Eagles forced the Falcons into more turnovers (17 to 14), and shot better from the floor overall (.400 to .377), but Bowling Green got the free throw line 29 times, connecting on 22 of them, while EMU went to the line just 11 times, connecting on nine of them.

Eastern Michigan returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Feb. 13 when it welcomes Miami to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. matchup.
