MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team carried on its full schedule of Raycom Media Camellia Bowl programming Thursday, Dec. 13. The morning started with a step into Montgomery's past at the Rosa Parks museum, followed by the team's second bowl practice at Alabama State, and a night full of knocking down bowling pins at Bama Lanes.
The Eagles' morning kicked off with a tour of the Rosa Parks Museum, located in downtown Montgomery on the same street in which the mother of the civil rights movement was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat. EMU student-athletes were able to travel through time by viewing artifacts, original pieces of court documentation and more from the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycotts.
"It's just crazy to actually be here," senior defensive back Ikie Calderon (Neptune, N.J.-Neptune-College of the Desert) recalled. "You know what happened through shows, documentaries, and history books, but just being at the same location that Rosa Parks was arrested at and getting the full experience with my teammates is such a blessing."
After a quick break for lunch and team meetings, the Eagles returned to ASU's stadium for their second bowl practice.
"The guys have done a good job," noted assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Neal Neathery. "They've been enjoying themselves, but when we get out to the field, they [change their] focus so we can have a good practice."
The day finished with a bowling event at Bama Lanes, where the student-athletes stepped away from football to compete with their teammates on the lanes.
