YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took part in the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion movement the week of Oct.-5. With support from the Mid-American Conference Council of Student-Athletes, EMU SAAC led the movement here on campus. They also partnered with some of the Eastern Michigan Athletic and Academic departments to promote diversity and inclusion throughout the week.
The campaign was broken up into five days, each representing a different theme. Monday was "More Than An Athlete", Tuesday, "Beyond A Label", Wednesday, "The Facts", Thursday, "Diversity Is…", and Friday being "I Pledge To…" Student-athletes from across the country spoke out on behalf of one another to promote awareness for this initiative.
According to the NCAA website, the purpose of the campaign was to serve as a platform for student-athletes, administrators, coaches and fans across the country to start the discussion, speak out on, and promote diversity and inclusion as key elements of student-athlete success. The goal of the campaign was to use social media to create a dialogue on diversity and inclusion and to communicate the benefit of inclusive environments to the student-athlete experience.
