Eastern will host 13 matches during this season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University tennis coach Jayson Wiseman and his team have announced the 2018 spring schedule for the Eagles.

"We have put together what we feel is a strong schedule that is very ambitious," said Coach Wiseman. "We believe that it will really test our team and allow them to push themselves to be the best they can be."

Eastern begins the season with a single match in January, kicking off the campaign with a battle against Youngstown State, Jan. 26.

February will be a busy stretch for the Eagles, as EMU hits the road for a three-match trip to Nebraska, taking on South Dakota, Colorado State, and host Nebraska, Feb. 2 - Feb. 4. The Green and White then host a pair of matches Feb. 9, as it welcomes Mississippi State and Grand Valley State to Ypsilanti. They'll then travel east to take on Pittsburgh, Feb. 10 and Cleveland State, Feb. 11. The month wraps up with five matches in the state of Texas, as Eastern Michigan takes on Incarnate Word, St. Mary's (Texas), Texas State, UT San Antonio, and Trinity University (Texas) in the Lonestar State over a three-day span, Feb. 20 - Feb. 23.

"We also have a number of home matches and matches against opponents from right here in Michigan, so we are very excited and hopeful that we can generate more fan interest for this season," said Wiseman. "We are also very excited for what may be a first for the program, hosting an SEC team when we welcome Mississippi State to the Chippewa Club."

The Eagles will spend the month of  March at home, hosting eight matches at the Chippewa Club. They'll open the month with matches against Oakland and Detroit Mercy, March 16. Eastern then welcomes Akron to town to begin Mid-American Conference play, March 23. The Eagles will also play MAC opponents Buffalo (March 25) and Ball State (March 30) in the month, as well as non-conference foes Northwood (March 23), Wayne State (March 25) and Saginaw Valley (March 30).

"I believe with the experience we have on our roster and the talented freshman whom we brought in for spring, that we can have an excellent year and put together a strong final season for our seniors and hopefully their first winning season here at EMU," said Wiseman.

Eastern Michigan wraps up its season in April, traveling to MAC foes Western Michigan (Apr. 1), Miami (Apr. 6), Bowling Green (Apr. 8), and Northern Illinois (Apr. 20) in the month, while also playing at Dayton (Apr. 6) and hosting Toledo and Tiffin (Apr. 13). The Eagles' match against Toledo, Friday, Apr. 13, is when they will honor their seniors for Senior Day.

"With the success we've had over the past two seasons, I wanted to make our schedule more challenging for our ladies," said Wiseman. "I feel that every match is going to be tough, which will only help us when we get to the MAC Tournament at the end of April."
