Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are women's basketball athlete, Danielle Minott, and wrestling athlete, Tomas Gutierrez.

Week's Achievements: Redshirt junior Danielle Minott (Miami, Fla.-Miami Country Day (Syracuse)) was exceptional for the Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team, Jan. 17-20, leading the Eagles to a pair of victories. Minott averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 1.0 assist, and 0.5 blocks per game over the two-game stretch, as EMU defeated Western Michigan,  69-67, in overtime, Jan. 17, before topping Northern Illinois, 83-76, on the road, Jan. 20. Minott's career night against WMU saw the Miami native go off for a career-best 29 points, while adding in seven rebounds and three steals. Then, in Saturday's win over NIU, Minott added 15 points and six rebounds to pace a balanced offensive effort. Minott's play has the Eagles on a three-game win steak, their first since winning five in-a-row, Feb. 6-24, 2016.

Over the last three games, Minott is averaging 21.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 1.7 assists, while shooting 51.1 percent (23.-of-45) from the floor and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from three-point range.

Week's Achievements: Redshirt freshman Tomas Gutierrez (Arvada, Colo.-Pomona) posted one of EMU's top performances in the Eagles' dominating 30-3 win over Northern Illinois, Jan. 19. Gutierrez knocked off nationally ranked Brock Hudkins of NIU, who came into the match 19th in the country and first in the MAC, by decision, 5-3.
