KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – In a hard fought battle, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team finished second with 124 points today, May 13, on the final day of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships. The last day of competition saw EMU claim a total of four event titles to wrap up the conference championship.
"I'm very proud of the effort of the team this past weekend," remarked Head Coach Sue Parks. "We had a number of setbacks this outdoor season, but the girls refused to give up and they battled hard to put us in a position to win this championship. It did not fall our way this time but the effort was there. I can't say enough about the performances of Alsu Bogdanova, Jordann McDermitt, Jasmine Jones, Jessica Harris, Dace Dremaine, and some others who stepped up for team. We gave it our best shot and I'm happy that we put it all out there to battle for the win. This is a special group of athletes who are team players and I'm already excited about what our team can do next year."
Sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) took part in the finals of the 100m dash, finishing fourth with a career-best time of 11.60 seconds, which was just .03 seconds shy of third. The 4x400m relay saw the Green and White finish second, as James, freshman Micah Johnston, senior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson), and Jones crossed the finish line in 3:42.11, which was less than a second out of first.
