Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Sam Delaplane and men's track and field athlete Willy Fink.
Sam Delaplane
Sport: Baseball
Position: RHP
Year: Senior
Major: Marketing
Week's Achievements: Delaplane had a career-outing in an 8-2 win over Ohio to open the weekend series. The righty tossed the first complete game in his EMU career, striking out a career-high 12 Bobcats in the process, while not giving up a walk. It was the most K's recorded in a single-game by an EMU pitcher in the modern statistical era (since 1999). Overall, he gave up eight hits and just one earned run, after runs scored on a wild pitch and passed ball. The outing dropped his ERA to a team-low 2.86. His win was part of a weekend sweep for EMU, and the Eagles are now out to a 7-2 start, their best since 2008.
Willy Fink

Week's Achievements: Fink had a very strong showing in the 3000m steeplechase elite invite at the Mt. SAC Relays last week, April 14. Fink was able to finish sixth in a tough field, clocking in at 8:44.84. Currently, Fink's time stands at No. 5 in the NCAA and No. 1 within the MAC by more than 20 seconds.
