Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player John Montgomery and men's track and field athlete Derek Zigenfuss.

Major: Management
Week's Achievements: Montgomery was the catalyst offensively in a 3-1 week for Eastern Michigan, including a midweek win over Michigan State, as well as a series win over Miami. The outfielder batted .389, with a double and two homeruns, as well as five RBIs. In game one of the series vs Miami, he was the hero in a 7-5 extra inning affair. In the 10th frame, he launched a two-run home run to power EMU to victory. In the series finale, he went for three hits, including a double and his second homer of the series, as well as three RBI's in a 10-6 victory.

Week's Achievements: Derek Ziegenfuss had a record-breaking performance at the Tennessee Relays this past week, April 7. Ziegenfuss competed in the javelin throw, turning in a second-place finish with a career-best throw of 67.76 meters/ 222 feet 4-inches. Not only was his mark a personal-best, but it also broke the program record, which he set last season.
