Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's swimmer Alex Chan and gymnast Kendall Valentin.
Alex Chan
Sport: Men's Swimming
Position: Diver
Year: Senior
Major: Communication Technology
Week's Achievements: Chan was outstanding for the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team, March 1-4, leading the Eagles to its third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship in a thrilling come-from-behind performance. Early in the week, Chan won the 1-meter dive, before tying his own school and MAC meet record on the 3-meter. Chan posted a score of 422.75 to claim the 3-meter title for the fourth straight year, while it marked the second consecutive season in which he has swept the diving events. For his tremendous contributions, Chan was named MAC Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season, as the Eagles edged out Missouri State by one point.

Kendall ValentinSport: Gymnastics
Position: N/A
Year: Junior
Major: Biology
Week's Achievements: Valentin led the Eagles to their best team total of the season in West Virginia, as the Green and White totaled a 196.225 in Morgantown. Valentin made history on bars, tying the program record with a 9.950 after repeatedly hitting the 9.925 mark throughout the season. Valentin also made her return to vault, scoring a 9.80 after not competing on the event over the last few weeks. Additionally, the junior scored a 9.85 on beam to help EMU score a 49.300 on the event, the second-best beam total in the EMU record books.
