Final Day: Heather Lyke Reflects on Her Time at EMU

Lyke closed out her tenure at EMU on Monday, March 27

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —  Monday, March 27, marked the final day on the job for Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Heather Lyke, as she departs to take the same position at the University of Pittsburgh.  Before she handed in her keys, Lyke sat down for a final interview with EMUEagles.com to reflect on her time at EMU, as well as what the future hold with her departure.

Lyke will have an everlasting effect on the school's athletic programs, as she helped lead EMU to its first Mid-American Conference Cartwright Award for all-around athletic department excellence in 2013-14. She was also there for EMU's first ever MAC Jacoby Award for female athletic excellence in 2014-15, while winning the national championship for Excellence in Athletic Management in 2015-16.

Champions Built Here was more than an athletics mantra during her time at Eastern Michigan, as it defined a new era. During her nearly four year tenure, EMU coaches and staff won 19 MAC Coach of the Year Awards, one National Coach of the Year Award, and mentored 17 MAC Team Champions, 21 MAC Players of the Year, 91 MAC individual champions, 248 All-MAC student-athletes, and 389 Academic All-MAC honorees.
