Eagles of the Week Presented by EMUCU

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are women's track athlete Jordann McDermitt and gymnast Kendall Valentin.

Jordann McDermitt

Week's Achievements: McDermitt had a fantastic performance at the NCAA Indoor T&F Championships this past week, becoming the eighth First Team All-American honoree in program history. McDermitt, who took part in the 5000m, finished sixth in the race to earn first team honors for the first time in her career. The Davison, Mich. native clocked in with a time of 15:43.95, crushing her previous career-best time of 15:50.16 to cement herself as the top EMU 5000m runner in the record books by nearly 29 seconds.

Kendall Valentin
Sport:  Gymnastics

Major:  Biology

Week's Achievements: Valentin wrapped up a fantastic regular season with another strong meet against Bowling Green, March 11, helping the Eagles to their first ever MAC regular season title. Valentin competed on three events, turning in a top-three finish on each. The Holmdel, N.J. native began on vault, finishing third with a 9.825. On bars, she won the event a 9.925 for the fifth time this season, which is just short of her new career-best set last week. Finally, she wrapped up her day on beam, scoring a 9.875 to claim her second event title of the day.
