SOUTH BEND, Ind. & Akron, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up day two of competition at the Meyo Invitational and the Akron Invitational today, Feb. 4. The Eagles saw another fantastic performance from the distance squad, as the 3000m program record fell.
"We had some ups and downs in the meet but overall, it was a positive weekend for us and I feel that we are moving in the right direction with our preparation for the MAC championship," remarked Head Coach Sue Parks. "Jordann McDermitt continued to show what a special athlete she is with a huge personal best and school record in the 3000. After focusing on shorter races early in the season, I'm excited to see what she can do in a 5000 next weekend. Besides Jordann, we also had a number of personal and seasonal bests. We still have a few athletes who are coming back from injuries and illnesses, but we feel that those issues can get worked out over these next few weeks."
Sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) was one of two Eagles competing in the 60m dash semifinals, taking 17th with a time of 7.72 seconds. The other, freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio – West Geauga) was just behind her, nabbing 19th in 7.74.
Junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) had a strong day in the 400m dash, bringing home 21st with a career-best time of 55.68 seconds. Freshman Micah Johnston also had a great race, taking 25th and clocking in at 56.11 seconds, which was also a personal-best.
Moving to mid-distance, juniors Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) and Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill. – Rockford Lutheran) ran in the 800m. Branham finished with a career-best time of 2:12.24, putting her at ninth in the EMU record books, while Mesa crossed the finish line in 2:17.23.
In the mile, junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) had a fantastic day, running the third-quickest mile in program history. The Clinton Twp., Mich. native finished in 11th-place, posting a career-best time of 4:41.18.
The Eagles' highlight of the day came in the 3000m run, where junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) had the best 3000m race in program history. McDermitt finished third in the loaded field, clocking in with a career-best time of 9:10.42, which was a career-best and the best 3000m time in the EMU record books. Sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) had another excellent race, crossing the finish line in a career-best 9:41.69, which bumped her to eighth in the EMU record books.

Finally, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) secured a bronze for EMU in the triple jump, finishing with an indoor-best mark of 12.66 meters/ 41 feet 6.5-inches.
Over in Akron, a trio of throwers rounded out competition in the weight throw. Sophomore Morgan Turner (Norwalk, Ohio – Norwalk) led the way, bringing home a 16th-place finish with a mark of 14.62 meters/ 47 feet 11.75-inches.
