SOUTH BEND, Ind. & HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team concluded day two of competition at the Meyo Invitational and the Hillsdale Classic today, Feb. 4. Eastern had another strong showing, especially in the mile and the 3000m run at the Meyo Invite.
Junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) was the team's lone competitor in the 60m dash semifinals, taking home 17th after clocking in at 6.99 seconds. In the 400m dash, freshman Trevor Marcus (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome) had a solid race, crossing the finish line in 49.54 seconds, which was a career-best.
In the 800m run, junior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich. – Thomas J. Anderson) had a solid race, clocking in at 1:54.62, which was a personal-best, to lead EMU. The mile saw redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) turn in a fantastic race, taking home fourth-place with a time of 4:02.88, which was just off his career-best.
In the 3000m run, redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge) had an incredible race for the Eagles. Andresson brought home eighth-place, clocking in at 8:06.69, which was a career-best and the ninth-quickest 3000m time in the EMU record books. Additionally, it also broke the Icelandic indoor record, which was 8:10.94 from 2007.
Three Eagles ran in the semifinals of the 60m hurdles. Sophomore Frank Douglas (Mansfield, Ohio – Madison Comprehensive) led the group, nabbing 14th with a time of 8.30 seconds. Freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) was narrowly behind him, taking 15th after clocking in at 8.35 seconds.
Sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) took part in the high jump, nabbing 14th with a jump of 1.98 meters/ 6 feet 6-inches. Fellow sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) took part in the triple jump, nabbing 10th with a jump of 14.54 meters/ 47 feet 8.5-inches.
Moving to the Hillsdale Classic, sophomore Elijah Barber (Columbus, Ohio – Eastmoor Academy) turned in a third-place finish in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 50.93 seconds. Over in the mile, sophomore Colin Burdette (Hilliard, Ohio – Hilliard Davidson) ran to a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 4:27.38, which was a personal-best.
In the high jump, freshman Drew Lament (Lakeview, Ohio – Waynesfield-Goshen) notched a solid performance, taking 13th with a jump of 1.73 meters/ 5 feet 8-inches. Finally, redshirt sophomore Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich. – Avondale) led the way in the shot put, posting a personal-best throw of 16.09 meters/ 52 feet 9.5-inches.
Next week, the Green and White will split up one again, this time heading to the Husky Classic, GVSU Big Meet, and Spire Invitational, Feb. 10-11.
