Alsu Bogdanova Earns MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

This is the first weekly honor earned by a track and field student-athlete in the 2017-18 season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University women's track and field redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) earned Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec. 3, the league office announced Wednesday, Dec. 6. This award was earned for her outstanding performance in the first meet of the season, the GVSU Holiday Open, which was held Dec. 3, in Allendale, Mich.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition.
Bogdanova had an impressive start to the 2017-18 indoor season, recording the program's third-best indoor record for the 5000m run in the season opener. The All-American notched a time of 16:16.81 to take first place in the event, besting her previous indoor record by almost four seconds. The Kazan, Russia native now holds the third ranked indoor 5000m time in EMU laurels, and the program's all-time best performance in the outdoor 5000m (15:43.84).
