Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are women's basketball, Sasha Dailey, and men's basketball athlete, James Thompson IV.

Week's Achievements: Senior Sasha Dailey (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers) turned in her best all-around performance of the season to lead EMU to a win over Detroit Mercy, Dec. 17. With the win, the Eagles snapped a seven-game losing skid and recorded their first road victory since Nov. 29, 2016. The Toledo, Ohio native tied a season-high with 18 points, while adding in six rebounds, six steals, and two assists. Her six swipes were the most by an Eagle this season and put her over 200 for her career, while also led EMU's to its highest steal count since the 2004 season as the Green and White turned UDM over a season-high 32 times. Additionally, it was the third straight game in which she has finished with double-digit scoring, as well as the fifth in the past six games, as she has seen her points per game average rise to 10.4.

Week's Achievements: Junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) continued his dominance in an 85-80 win against Long Beach State University Saturday, Dec. 16, as the Eagles improved their record to 8-2. Thompson registered his ninth double-double of the season, which currently ranks first in the Mid-American Conference and third in the NCAA. The Baton Rouge, La. native also sits near the top of the MAC in several categories, ranking first in rebounds per game (12.7), second in field goal percentage (.699), third in blocked shots per game (1.6), and seventh in average points per game (17.7). Additionally, his rebound total of 127 is over 30 more than the second-most in the conference.
