Elijah Minnie scored a game-high 20 points, but the Hoosiers' strong second half buried the Eagles

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at Indiana University, falling 87-67 Friday, Nov. 24 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Trailing by just five at the break, EMU (4-1) could not contain the IU (4-2) offensive onslaught, as the Hoosiers shot a blistering 59 percent from the field and 72 percent from beyond the three-point line in the second half. After shooting 64 percent from downtown in the first half, the Eagles were held to just 20 percent in the second stanza.

Redshirt junior Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) led all scorers with 20 points in the game, marking the fourth time in five games the newcomer has topped the 20-point threshold. Paul Jackson (Stone Mountain, Ga.-Martin Luther King Jr. (Eastern Kentucky)) added 12 points and a game-high five rebounds, while junior James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) added 10 points and eight boards.

Minnie carried the Eagles in the opening half, scoring 17 of his points before the halftime buzzer. Eastern trailed by as many as nine, but were able to cut the deficit to just five by the break at 42-37 thanks to a strong shooting performance from the floor. EMU shot 44 percent overall and was 7-for-11 for 64 percent from the three-point line.

Unfortunately for Eastern, the shooting cooled in the second half while Indiana's picked up. The Hoosiers shot a blistering 59 percent in the second stanza and 71 percent from downtown. IU finished the game with a 53 percent mark from the floor and shot 57 percent from the three-point line.

One of the other key factors came in the inside game, as Indiana held the rebound advantage 37-29, and dominated the points in the paint, 34-20. IU also won the bench points, 29-16, and only committed eight turnovers compared to EMU's 10.

Eastern Michigan returns to action Sunday, Nov. 26 when it travels to Tampa, Fla. to take on the University of South Florida at 4 p.m.
