Davis was named to the All-MAC Second Team, while Olson was tabbed MAC All-Freshman
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Junior Peyton Davis (North Ridgeville, Ohio-Holy Name) and freshman Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) of the Eastern Michigan University soccer team garnered Mid-American Conference postseason honors the league office announced Thursday, Nov. 2. Davis reeled in All-MAC Second Team honors, while Olson was tabbed an All-Freshman selection.
Davis is the 20th Eagle to land on the All-MAC Second Team in EMU history. Meanwhile, Olson marks the third consecutive season in which EMU has had a player listed on the MAC All-Freshman squad, as Kristin Nason and Sabrina McNeill garnered the distinction in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Davis had a career year for the Green and White, making a career-high 20 starts and totaling a career-high 1,337 minutes. The North Ridgeville, Ohio native was one of just four Eagles to start every game in 2017. Davis made the most of her minutes, racking up five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points, all of which were career-highs. The third-year forward came on strong late, recording all of her points over the final seven games of the season. Davis registered two three-point efforts, tallying a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Bowling Green, Oct. 5, before repeating that performance against Western Michigan, Oct. 19, to lead EMU to a 3-nil win.
Like Davis, Olson earned the starting nod in all 20 matches for EMU, the lone freshman to do so. A fierce midfielder, Olson ranked second on the team with three goals, while leading the Eagles with three-helpers. Olson's nine points ranked as the second-most on the team, as well as the second-most by a freshman in the league. The Libertyville, Ill. product finished up the season with a three-match point streak, the longest by an Eagle since Angela Vultaggio did so Sept. 26-Oct. 3, 2014. She netted the game-winner against Western Michigan, Oct. 19, before closing out the season with assists in back-to-back games.
Eastern Michigan finished the 2017 campaign with a 7-12-1 record, including a 4-7-0 mark in conference play, narrowly missing the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
