Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are football athlete Vince Calhoun, and volleyball athlete, Jordan Smith.
Vince Calhoun

Position: Defensive Back
Year: Sophomore
Major: Undecided
Week's Achievements:
Sophomore Vince Calhoun led the way in another stout defensive showing by the Eagles, Oct. 7, versus Toledo. Individually, Calhoun totaled a career-best 16 tackles, including 10 solo stops. His 16 tackles were the most by an Eagle since 2015. He now leads the team with 35 total tackles. Calhoun was crucial in EMU's performance as the Green and White held Toledo to its lowest point total of the year (20) and 22 points below its average.
Jordan Smith
Sport: Volleyball
Position: Outside Hitter
Year: Junior
Major: Psychology
Week's Achievements:
Usually relied on for her offensive production, over the weekend junior Jordan Smith provided a career-best performance defensively while maintaining a strong offensive performance. The junior came just two digs shy (19) of a career-high in a five-set loss to Central Michigan Oct. 5, and followed up that effort with a career-best 22 digs in another heartbreaking five-set loss to Ohio, Oct. 7. In the Ohio loss, the Solon, Iowa native also led the Eagles with a season-high 20 kills and hit .241 in the match. It was Smith's seventh double-double of the season, and the first of her career with 20+ kills and digs.
