Wrestling Signs Eight Newcomers for 2016-17 Season

The eight recruits come from three states and will compete in seven weight classes
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team announced it's incoming recruiting class for the upcoming season today, Aug.17. Joining the Eagles this upcoming winter are Zach Blevins (Dundee, Mich.-Dundee), Tomas Gutierrez (Arvada, Colo.-Pomona), Wyatt Harden (Hadley, Mich.-Oxford), Jared Leidich (Olmstead Falls, Ohio-St. Edward), Andrew McNally (Uniontown, Ohio-Lake), Ameer Munassar (Melvindale, Mich.-Melvindale), Jake Spiess (Delta, Ohio-Delta), and Chance Veller (Swanton, Ohio-Delta).
The class received honorable mention honors in FloWrestling's Top-20 recruiting class rankings. The eight recruits hail from three states, including three from Michigan, four from Ohio, and one from Colorado. They are projected to represent seven different weight classes at EMU.
"This class brings a lot of energy and excitement to our program," head coach David Bolyard said. "We are looking forward to getting them here and to start working towards their academic and athletic goals. I'm extremely proud of this class and the job our staff did to put it together."
Zach Blevins (Dundee, Mich.-Dundee; 149 lbs.)
HIGH SCHOOL: Compiled a 191-32 record at Dundee High School as a four-year letterwinner and one-time captain...Was a four-time state placer, including a two-time Division 3 state runner-up his junior and senior years...His team was state champions three times during his career...Also lettered in baseball...PERSONAL: Full name: Zachary Charles Blevins...Son of Jesse and Christine Blevins...Has one sister, Kelsey...Major: Criminal justice.
Tomas Gutierrez (Arvada, Colo.-Pomona; 125 lbs.)
HIGH SCHOOL: Tallied a 149-18 record at Pomona High School as a four-time letterwiner and three-time captain...Was a two-time state champion, three-time finalist, and four-time placer at 120 lbs....His high school also won the 2016 state championship...Ranked as the 16th overall senior at 120 lbs. by Wrestling USA Magazine...Named All-Colorado Jeffco Wrestler of the Year twice...USA Wrestling Folkstyle National All-American honoree...Four-time academic letterwiner for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher...Named all-state for academics...PERSONAL: Full name: Tomas Andres Gutierrez...Son of Salvador Gutierrez and Anna Oviedo...Has two brothers, Salvador Gutierrez and Benny Oviedo, and one sister, Reina Gutierrez...Major: Sport management.
Wyatt Harden (Hadley, Mich.-Oxford; HWT)
HIGH SCHOOL: Compiled a 128-30 record at Oxford High School as a four-time letterwinner and one-time captain...Took third at 220 lbs. at the Division 1 State Championship in 2016...Was a Cadet Greco-Roman National runner-up, as well as a Cadet Freestyle National All-American, taking sixth place...Also lettered in football, where he was an all-conference running back...PERSONAL: Full name: Wyatt Joseph Harden...Son of Eric and Carrie Harden...Has one brother, Cody, and one sister, Andreya...Major: Occupational therapy.
Jared Leidich (Olmstead Falls, Ohio-St. Edward; 174/184 lbs.)
