ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Playing through a downpour and a venue change, the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team topped Oakland University, 3-1, Friday night in exhibition action.

Trading chances early on, EMU broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute, as redshirt sophomore Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) beat the keeper on the counter. Nason's deflected pass was met by the boot of senior Michelle Rollins (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) who buried the goal, giving EMU a 1-nil lead.

As the teams hustled back to midfield, lightning struck, forcing play to pause. With rain continuing to pour, the squads returned to action in OU's indoor facility.

With roughly 20 minutes remaining in the half, the Green and White continued to test the backline and keeper of Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies pieced together a scoring chance of their own on a counter just before the half but sophomore goalkeeper Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) denied the shot.

Returning to the pitch in the second half, the Eagles garnered an early free kick that nearly doubled their lead. Senior Madison Hirsch (Troy, Mich.-Troy) connected with a free kick but OU's keeper was quick off her line for the save. OU attempted to threaten but redshirt senior Ellie Tillar (Cincinnati, Ohio-Turpin) disrupted the play in the midfield, sending the Eagles back on attack. Playing a ball forward, Tillar's pass broke through the Oakland defense and led Nason on a run towards goal. With the keeper charging, Nason sent the ball of the keeper and into the net, doubling EMU's lead.

Oakland cut Eastern's lead to one midway through the second half, taking advantage of congestion in the box but EMU responded. Drawing a free kick in front of the EMU bench, senior Stef Barcelos (Mississauga, Ontario-St. Marcellinus) trotted to the ball from her spot at center back to deliver the service. A well-placed cross by Barcelos was met by the boot of redshirt freshman Mia Colavito (Mississauga, Ontario-Loyola Catholic). Corralling the ball in traffic, Colavito blasted a shot into the back of the net, increasing EMU's lead to 3-1.

Colavito's insurance goal proved to be the final tally, as the Green and White came away with a 3-1 victory.

Eastern returns to action, Aug. 21, when it hosts Butler University for its season opener at Scicluna Field. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
