Eagles of the Week Presented by EMU Financial

Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Financial's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Mitchell McGeein and gymnast Rachel Slocum.


16972Mitchell McGeein
Sport:  Baseball
Position: Infielder
Year:  Senior
Major:  Exercise Science
 


Week's Achievements:  McGeein remained red hot after a very productive month of March, going 6-for-13 (.462) over the past week.  He clubbed his fourth home run of the year, while knocking in six runs as well.  The senior now has a 14-game hitting streak, and is hitting .351 on the season.  His offensive efforts have driven EMU to its best start in MAC play since 2011 (5-1).

Sport: Gymnastics

Year:  Sophomore
Major: Nursing
 


Week's Achievements:
Slocum had a fantastic meet at the team's first ever NCAA Regional competition this past weekend, April 2. The sophomore competed on both floor and vault, posting scores of 9.825 and 9.9, respectively, en route to the team finishing with a 196.250, which was just .0275 away from first-place Auburn and Stanford. Not only was Slocum's floor score tied for her career-best, but it also put her in a tie for first-place at the meet. Based off of her finish, Slocum qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships, April 15-16, as an individual floor competitor. The sophomore is only the second Eagle to qualify for the national championship, following Robin Loeheide from 1993.
