Eagles Snap Skid with 4-3 Victory at Bowling Green

EMU grabbed its first MAC win of the 2016 campaign
PERRYSBURG, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team snapped a four-match losing skid Sunday afternoon, April 10, by defeating Bowling Green State University, 4-3. After taking the doubles point, the Eagles (4-14, 1-4 MAC) snagged three singles wins defeat the Falcons (2-15, 0-4 MAC) for their first Mid-American Conference victory of the 2016 season.
Ani Gogvadze and Marie Mayerova got things off on the right foot by defeating Bowling Green's Polina Radeva and Emily Witt, 6-1, in the No. 2 doubles spot, while Renu Sharma and Anna Veleva sealed the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Leeah Floyd and Antonina Farrar in the No. 3 position. Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova's No. 1 doubles match went unfinished at 5-2.
In singles action, it was No. 4, 5, and 6 that secured the victory for Eastern. At No. 4, Veleva defeated Witt with ease, 6-2, 6-2, while both Mayerova and Sharma took their matches in straight sets as well. Mayerova blanked Floyd, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 singles spot, while Sharma knocked off Farrar, 6-3, 6-2.
"We did a good job of winning the four points we needed quickly today," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. 'We just didn't do a good job of finishing the ten point-tiebreaks in the end. Regardless we got the win, and we need to prepare well for Toledo on Friday."
The Green and White returns to action Friday, April 15, for its final home match of the 2016 campaign. The Eagles will take on Toledo at 1 p.m. from the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex. Should inclement weather arrive, the match will be played at the Chippewa Racquet Club.
