BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan Unviersity women's swimming and diving team turned in five third-place finishes on the final day of the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 27, to claim second for the second consecutive season. The Eagles pushed their point total to 592, holding off Bowling Green State University and finishing behind the University of Akron.

The session begin with the final heat of the 1650 Freestyle where freshman Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) turned in a career-best time of 16:49.11. Shaving more nearly 20 seconds off her previous best, Swartz touched in with the fourth-fastest time in program history while taking third in the event. Junior Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) claimed the final spot on the podium, taking eighth.

After a sixth-place finish by junior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) in the 200 Backstroke, the Eagles turned their attention to the 100 Free. Taking part in their last individual races of their careers, seniors Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Coutnry Day) and Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) left it all in the pool. MacLean edged out Detro by just two tenths of a second to claim third with a time of 49.72, the third-fastest time in EMU annals. Posting the fifth-fastest time by an Eagle, Detro touched in just behind her teammate with a time of 49.92.

Eastern's breaststroke specialists followed suit in the 200 Breast, turning in the third and fifth-ranked times in program history. One day after earning the 100 Breast title and helping the 200 Medley Relay to another, freshman Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) posted a career-best in the 200. Clocking in at 2:15.36, Duncan finished fourth while junior Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) took seventh behind a personal-best time. The duo's times ranked third and fifth, respectively, in Eastern laurels.

In the final individual event of the meet, the Eagles sent three swimmers to the championship heat of the 200 Butterfly. Senior Clarice Daniel (Belcamp, Md.) closed out her collegiate career on a high note, clocking in with a career-best that also ranks fifth in EMU history. Finishing with a time of 2:01.24, Daniel placed third, touching in six hundreths of a second ahead of teammate Carly Jackson (LaPorte, Ind.-LaPorte). Jackson nabbed a fifth-place finish while freshman Emilie Desnoyers added a seventh-place finish. Touching in in 2:02.13, Desnoyers' time marked a career-best while also ranking seventh in Eastern Michigan history.

The meet came to a close with the 400 Free Relay. Entering the race with the fourth-seeded time, the Eagles contested Akron for first early before finding themselves in a three-way fight for second. Holding a slight lead heading into the third leg of the race, the Green and White were even with Bowling Green and Buffalo with 100 yards remaining. Going stroke-for-stroke with BGSU, a late push by the Bulls left the Eagles in a tie for third with the Falcons. Touching in with a time of 3:21.53, the relay squad of Detro, Van Allen, junior Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville), and MacLean posted a season-best by more than three seconds.

Eastern Michigan finished the MAC Championships with three first-place finishes, two runner-ups, and eight third-place finishes on the week. The three top honors marked the most by the Eagles since 2013 when the Green and White boasted four conference champions.

In addition to the Eagles' second-place finish, six EMU swimmers earned All-MAC honors. Detro, Duncan, and Daniel earned first team honors while Jackson, MacLean, and Van Allen were named to the second team.
