Yockey Leads Eagles at Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the Ohio State Invitational, Feb.14, with six more top-three finishes, bringing their weekend total to 10. Sophomore Rosalie Yockey (DeWitt, Mich.-DeWitt) added another win to her weekend to lead the Eagles.
Yockey paced the Eagles on day two, registering her second win of the weekend and adding a third-place finish to close out the day. The DeWitt, Mich. native opened with a career-best showing in the 1650 Freestyle. Touching in with a time of 17:09.37, Yockey shattered her previous personal-best by more than 20 seconds. She then closed out the weekend with a third-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley. Clocking in with another career-best (2:08.54), Yockey finished just behind junior teammate Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon). Garringer claimed runner-up with a season-best time of 2:08.32. Her time was roughly six seconds faster than her prelim showing.
Sophomore Hannah Newell (Ames, Iowa-Ames) placed second in her lone race of the day, clocking in with a time of 1:53.46 in the 200 Free while junior Emily Wimmer (Hammond, Ind.-Munster) added a third-place finish in the 200 Breaststroke. Rounding out the Eagles top performances was freshman Rebecca Winnert who claimed third in the 200 Butterfly. Besting her preliminary time by nearly two seconds, Winnert touched in with a career-best 2:08.71 to place third.
Eastern now turns its attention to the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 24-27, in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Eagles placed second a season ago, and look to grab their first MAC title since 2007.
