CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics ranks 22nd in the 2016-17 Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Thursday, Dec. 1. EMU currently has totaled 95 point and trails first-place Stanford University (190 points) by less than 100 points.

Behind Stanford are Oregon (306.5 points), Colorado (158.5 points), Syracuse (145) and Michigan (141 points) in the top five. No other Mid-American Conference school is ranked inside the top 50.

"We are incredibly proud of how our men's and women's cross country teams competed this fall in the NCAAs which resulted in us being on this position," said EMU Vice President and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke. "We expect to build upon their success and use it as momentum with our other 19 teams throughout the rest of the academic year."

Eastern Michigan received its points from scoring in two of the fall championships that have been completed to date – men's and women's cross country. The women's cross country program turned in a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship with the men's team receiving points for finishing in the top five of its NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports–nine women's and nine men's.

The final Division I fall standings will be released Thursday, Dec. 15.
