EMU saw a pair of victories on day three
WEST LAFAYETTE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's tennis team completed the 2016 Purdue Invitational Sunday, Oct. 9, in West Lafayette, Ind. The Eagles had four singles matches, coming away with wins in a pair of them. It was the final weekend of competition before the fall Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional in East Lansing, Mich.
Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) fell in her third place matchup of the Boiler Maker draw to Miami's Anzhelika Shapovalova, 6-3, 6-2, while Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Managament School) dropped her Black Draw seventh place match, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6. Marie Mayerova (Krmelin, Czech Republic) was one of EMU's victors, defeating Putri Dwinta of Eastern Kentucky, 6-3, 7-6, in the Gold Draw's seventh place match, while Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) added a fifth place win over Illinois' Jade Hilton, 6-3, 6-3.
Eastern heads to Michigan State University for the ITA Midwest Regional, Oct. 20-25. Draws will be released over the next few weeks.
