Former EMU standout Vince Thomas will be the keynote speaker

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Baseball Coach Mark Van Ameyde has announced that the Second Annual Lead Off Dinner will take place Saturday, Feb. 13, begining at 6 p.m. Former Eagle baseball star Vince Thomas ('01) will serve as the keynote speaker for the event.

"We are really looking forward to the Lead Off Dinner this year, as last year's event was a tremendous success and we are planning on an even bigger and better night this February," Van Ameyde said.  "It will be a terrific way to get back to baseball as the season starts just six days after the dinner.

The event will help the EMU baseball team fund its spring trips as well as other projects to help enhance the team's performance throughout the season.  The Distinguished Alumni Award will also be presented to its newest recipient during the event.  This year's dinner will be hosted by EMU Radio Broadcatser Chad Bush.

In addition to serving dinner and drinks, a raffle and silent auction will be held throughout the night for several pieces of baseball memorabilia, as well as EMU baseball items and experiences.

Last year's keynote speaker was 2015 National League Champion  manager and former EMU legend Terry Collins.  This year's speaker, Thomas, has found much success in the business world after graduating from EMU.  His company, Billhighway, which he founded from his college apartment in 1999, now serves over 4,000 clients in all 50 States and Canada.  He was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011.

"Vince Thomas will be coming back to be our Keynote Speaker and we couldn't be more excited," Van Ameyde said.  "After Vince's playing career was over he has gone on to great success in the business world. He will help make the night a memorable experience."

Individual tickets for the event start at $125, while kids 12 and under are just $25.  To register please visit this link or call Becky Heckart at 734-487-8684.  The deadline to register is February 8th.

The Eagles will play a 54-game regular season slate that includes 15 games at Oestrike Stadium.  The second season under Van Ameyde will kick off Feb. 19 in Emerson, Ga. with a three-game set against Nebraska-Omaha.
