Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Financial's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are Gymnast Rachel Slocum and Women's Swimmer Becca Detro.

Week's Achievements:
Slocum posted a pair of career bests in the tri meet at Ball State, Jan. 24, as well as two first-place finishes. Slocum nailed her handspring front pike ½ for a 9.9 on vault, setting a new career best and taking home the gold. She also made her collegiate debut on beam, receiving a 9.775 in her first routine. Finally, the sophomore took top honors on floor with a 9.85.

Week's Achievements:
Senior freestyle specialist Becca Detro's near perfect weekend led the Eagles to a pair of dual victories. First, Detro turned in her fastest 500 Free time of the year before fueling the Eagles 200 Free Relay squad to a first place finish to top Wayne State, Jan. 22. In Mid-American Conference dual action, Saturday, Jan. 23, Detro clocked in with two more season-bests. Winning her first race of the day, Detro touched in with a time of 1:51.26 in the 200 Free before claiming second in the 100 Free with a season-best time of 51.82. The Carmel, Ind. native finished up her day with a dual clinching win as part of the 400 Free Relay team, ultimately giving the Eagles a 156-142 win over the University of Akron and Head Coach Peter Linn his 250th career dual victory.
