YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's Department of Athletics is once again teaming up with the university organization called Swoop's Food Pantry which is a campus-based organization that is run by a leadership board consisting of EMU faculty, staff, students and alumni volunteers.
At the Saturday, Jan. 23, EMU basketball doubleheader, volunteers from Swoop's Food Pantry will be collecting non-perishable food items for the pantry itself. Fans who donate an item will receive admission to both games for just five dollars. The games begin at 11:30 a.m. when the men square off with Ball State before the women take on Toledo at 2 p.m. In addition to canned items, Swoop's also provides students with "on the go" snacks as well, such as granola bars, nuts and trail mix.
The mission of Swoop's Food Pantry is to provide temporary food assistance for enrolled EMU students in need. Swoop's is a sustainable resource on-campus with a goal of distributing food discreetly in an easily accessible and safe environment on-campus. Swoop's has partnered with local community agencies to provide students with additional resources to assist them with needs that go beyond the food pantry.
