Eagles of the Week Presented by EMU Financial

Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMU Financial's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player James Thompson IV and gymnast Kendall Valentin.

Week's Achievements:  
Thompson made history against Northern Illinois, Jan. 9 when he made his 26th consecutive field goal, tying the NCAA record for consecutive field goals made.  The freshman finished the week averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds, while notching a double-double against Central Michigan, Jan. 6, going for 19 points and 14 rebounds.  Thompson shot 94.1 percent from the field in the two games (16-of-17), while converting 71.4 percent of his free throws (10-of-14).

Week's Achievements:  
Valentin led the Eagles to their best season opening team score in program history, scoring a 194.875 in a quad meet against Pitt, Maryland, and Towson. Valentin notched scores of 9.875 on vault, 9.85 on bars, and 9.85 on beam, placing first, second, and fourth, respectively. Additionally, her scores on both vault and beam were new career highs.
