EMU Athletics Hosts School Supply Drive for Holmes Elementary

Coaches and administrators across the department helped by donating
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Spearheaded by Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services, Dr. Talea Drummer, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics ran an internal school supply drive to help give Holmes Elementary School in Ypsilanti the necessities for the upcoming 2015-16 academic year.
From pencils to copy paper and crayons to glue sticks, the EMU coaching staffs and administration rose to the challenge, pooling together more than 275 pieces of school supplies for the Ypsilanti Community School which houses grades two through five.
"We really enjoyed the opportunity to connect with Holmes Elementary School for our school supply drive," remarked Drummer. "Principal Petty was beyond appreciative for our donation and was elated that we selected his school for our donation recipient. From this gesture, we have connected with Holmes as a school that we will have some of our student-athletes read to the second graders as well as bring them to campus to for an educational field trip."
Holmes Elementary is one of six elementary schools within the Ypsilanti Community Schools district. Holmes is one of the schools that are a part of the 2nd and 7 Foundation where EMU student-athletes spend time reading to elementary school students. The supplies received through the EMU Athletics school supplies drive will spread education utensils across 11 classrooms and nearly 300 students at Holmes.
