The Eagles will begin their 2015 campaign with a home event on Sept. 5

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team  will open their 2015 season with the EMU Celebration, Sept. 5, at the EagleCrest Golf Club. The meet marks the first-of-six races leading up to the Mid-American Conference Championship, where the Green and White look to capture their sixth-straight conference title.

The Eagles will be racing against harriers from 14 other teams, including: Albion, Jackson CC, Lansing CC, Lawrence Tech, Madonna, UM-Dearborn, Michigan, Mott CC, Northwood, Oakland CC, Siena Heights, Spring Arbor, Wayne State, and Western Michigan. As all of the other participating schools are from Michigan, the race will allow the team to gauge their in-state competition early in the season. The event will also give EMU their first look at a MAC opponent, as Western Michigan will be participating.

When speaking about the upcoming event, head coach John Goodridge stated, "What an enjoyable, memorable and proud way to begin a cross country season. I appreciate all the support we received from coaching colleagues who are bringing their teams to Ypsilanti to help us with our Celebration." The "Tribute to a Legacy" event serves to recognize the history of success associated with the EMU track & field and cross country. Specifically, previous coach Bob Parks will be honored by having his name added to the Olds-Marshall Track.

In the 2015 pre-season polls, MAC coaches unanimously selected the Green and White to finish first in the conference. Additionally, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association pre-season poll has the Eagles ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region. EMU is the top-ranked MAC program in the poll, as Akron is ranked No. 11, followed closely by Central Michigan at No. 12.

The EMU Celebration event will be a 5000-meter race, consisting of a repeating 2500-meter loop. The men are slated to begin at 10 a.m. while the women will start at 10:30 a.m. The course has hosted previous MAC Championships, as well as two NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships.
