The Eagles will start the year with the EMU Celebration at Eagle Crest Golf Course
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team released its 2015 schedule Wednesday, Aug. 5. The Eagles will begin the season with the EMU Celebration, Sept. 5, and will compete in three other meets in the state of Michigan, while also heading to Louisville, Ky. for a pair of meets before the 2015 postseason comes around.
"We are very excited to begin the 2015 Cross Country season at home on the beautiful Eagle Crest Golf Course along the shoreline of Ford Lake with our EMU Celebration 5000-meter race," said Head Cross Country Coach John Goodridge. "This will begin our "Tribute to a Legacy" event, in conjunction with the home opening football game which honors the over one hundred year history of the EMU track and field and cross country programs as well as having Coach Bob Parks' name added to the Olds-Marshall Track. Hundreds of alums will be in attendance, some participating, joining thirteen teams."
The "Tribute to a Legacy" is an event hosted by Eastern Michigan Athletics which is recognizing that EMU's track and field and cross country squads are marquee programs recognized nationally for its historic success. EMU Athletics is going to honor that legacy by inviting all former track and field and cross country student-athletes, their families and friends of the program to a reunion celebration at our home opening Football game on Saturday, Sept. 5, vs. Old Dominion University. Events for the celebration include a cross country meet at Eagle Crest, the EMU Celebration, the morning of the game, a tailgate for all attendees, on field recognition of the vast accomplishments of the program and the official dedication of adding Coach Parks' name to the Olds-Marshall Track to become known as the Olds-Marshall-Parks Track.
"We will stay close to home the month of September competing in Detroit Mercy and Michigan State's traditional Invitationals before making two trips to Louisville, the site of the 2015 NCAA National Championships," remarked Goodridge. "At each of these meets in Louisville we will face many of the best teams in the nation as we prepare for the MAC Championships in Akron and the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals in Madison, Wisconsin."
Following the EMU Celebration event, the Eagles will not host a meet until Oct. 23. Eastern will hit the road the following weekend for the Titan Invitational in Northville, Mich. hosted by the University of Detroit, Sept. 12, before heading to East Lansing, Mich., Sept. 18, for the Spartan Invitational.
Following their two "road" meets in the state of Michigan, the Eagles will head south to Louisville, Ky. for a pair of meets. First, EMU will take part in the Greater Louisville Classic, Oct. 3, before returning to the Bluegrass State for the Oct. 17 Pre-Nationals Invitational.
Eastern will return home for the EMU Fall Classic Friday, Oct. 23, as a tune-up for the Mid-American Conference Championships, Oct. 31, where the Eagles will defend their fifth-consecutive MAC Cross Country Championship.
After the MAC Championship meet, EMU will set its sights on the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 13, in Madison, Wis, before select student-athletes can be invited to the NCAA Championships, Nov. 21, in Louisville.
