Eight Rowers Garner CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Honors

The Eagles led the CAA with eight CRCA National Scholar-Athletes
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Friday, May 29, that eight Eastern Michigan University rowers were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes.
To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher, be in their sophomore year or later and have rowed in one of their institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boats for 75 percent of the spring races or the regional conference event.
The Eagles led the Colonial Athletic Association with eight honorees while Drexel had seven representatives and both Northeastern and Delaware had six.
EMU's 2015 honorees include: Samantha Allen, Krista Burdick, Emily Burks, Sidney Doss, Ashley Gilmore, Tijana Milovanovic, Steph Schlosser, and Lyndsey Tollas.
Allen was a key member of the Varsity Four team in all five of the Eagles' spring regattas. The Pomona, N.J. native helped the team to a victory at the Lubbers Cup where the V4 squad earned the Michaud Family Cup, which is awarded to the top women's four team. Allen also helped the Varsity Four team to the Petite Championships Crown at the MACRA Championships and led the Green and White to a third-place finish at the CAA Championships in the V4, which was the first-ever top-three finish for Eastern Michigan, crossing the line in 7:44.54. Allen holds a 3.62 grade point average as an education major.
Burdick competed in all five spring regattas for EMU in the Varsity Eight boat. She helped lead Eastern to three first-day victories at the Lubbers Cup before earning a second-place finish in the finale with a time of 6:57.80. Burdick also led the V8 squad to just the third-ever Harvey Cup in program history, crossing the line in 6:52.53 against Buffalo. Finally, Burdick capped off her junior season helping the Varsity Eight boat to a fourth-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. The place marked a program-best finish for the Green and White, allowing Burdick to take home All-CAA honors for the second-straight season. Burdick earns the accolade for the second time and carries a 3.99 GPA as a speech language pathology major.
Burks rowed in both the Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight boats in her third season as an Eagle. The Flushing, Mich. native raced in the V4 boat that placed fourth at the Murphy Cup before participating in the Harvey Cup in the 2v8 boat for the Green and White. Burks helped EMU to a third-place finish at the CAA Championships in the Varsity Four, which was the first-ever top-three finish for the Eagles, finishing in 7:44.54. The award marks the second of her career as Burks is a special education major with a 3.84 grade point average.
Doss earns the honor for the second time in her career, competing in all five regattas for EMU in the Varsity Eight boat where she led Eastern to three victories at the Lubbers Cup. The Grass Lake, Mich. native and the rest of the V8 team earned a second-place finish in the annual event, corssing the line in 6:57.80 before the team went on to grab the third-ever Harvey Cup with a win over Buffalo. Finally, Doss propelled the V8 team to a program-best fourth-place finish at the CAA Championships in her junior season. Doss holds a 3.74 GPA as a marketing major.
A two-time CRCA NationalScholar-Athlete, Gilmore was a staple in the Varsity Eight boat for the second-straight season helping the Green and White to three wins at the Lubbers Cup and a second-place finish. The Arlington, Wash. native also helped the Eagles to garner just their third-ever Harvey Cup with a win over Buffalo and a program-best fourth-place finish at the CAA Championships. Gilmore carries a 3.75 GPA as an elementary education major.
Milovanovic participated in the Varsity Four boat all season for the Eagles, helping EMU to a victory at the Lubbers Cup where the V4 squad earned the Michaud Family Cup, which is awarded to the top women's four team. Milovanovic has a 3.56 GPA as a computer science major.
Schlosser competed in all five regattas for EMU in the Varsity Eight boat during the 2015 season. The Mason, Ohio native capped off her season earning Academic All-CAA honors for the second-straight season after helping the V8 squad to a program-best fourth-place finish at the conference championships. The accolade marks the second of Schlosser's careersas she holds a 3.98 GPA as a psychology major.

The Hicksville, Ohio native led the V4 team to a Michaud Family Cup at the Lubbers Cup and a Petite Championships at the MACRA Championships. Finally, Tollas helped EMU to its first-ever top-three finish at the CAA Championships in the Varsity Four boat, crossing the line in 7:44.54. The honor marks the second of Tollas' career as she holds a 3.92 grade point average as a elementary education major.
