Thirteen Women's Track and Field Athletes Garner Academic All-MAC Accolades

2015 MAC champions excelled in competition and in the classroom
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced Friday, April 17, that 13 members of Eastern Michigan University's women's indoor track and field team have been named to the Academic All-MAC team. Bowling Green, Kent State, and Toledo led the conference with 17 selections, followed by EMU and Miami (13), Central Michigan (12), Ball State, Buffalo, Ohio, and Western Michigan (11), Akron (7), and Northern Illinois (4).
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
The 13 Eagles that earned the accolade included: Anna Aldrich, Ellie Braidic, Maya Carter, Sarah Chauchard, Amy Frauhammer, Agata Klimovich, Taylor Knoll, Aaliyah McKinney, Janina Pollatz, Rebecca Quaintance, Natalie Uy, Victoria Voronko, and Adrienne Waisner.
Aldrich competed in five meets for the Eagles, with her highest finish coming from a third-place performance in the mile at the CMU Tri Meet, Jan. 10, in 5:18.78. The sophomore also cut 30 seconds off her time in the 3000m within two weeks, setting a personal record of 10:16.13 at the Meyo Invitational, Feb. 6-7. Aldrich holds a 3.97 GPA in psychology.
The 2015 MAC champion in the pole vault, Braidic carries a 3.56 GPA in psychology. The junior competed in eight meets and earned First Team All-MAC accolades after winning the conference title with a vault of 4.03 meters/13 feet 2.50-inches, Feb 27. She set a personal record of 4.17 meters/13 feet 8.25-inches at the Akron Invitational, Feb. 7, which is the second-highest vault in EMU history. Additionally, she won the pole vault on five occasions and cleared 13 feet in all but two appearances.
A marketing major with a 3.43 GPA, Carter ran in seven meets and took 15th in the 60m hurdles at the MAC Championships. Her personal record in the event was set at the Meyo Invitational, when she clocked an 8.93. Carter also competed in the 600m run, setting a career best of 1:41.74 at the Notre Dame Invitational, Jan. 24.
Chauchard competed in five meets for the Eagles, winning the high jump at the EMU Holiday Meet, Dec. 5, and the EMU Quadrangular, Jan. 9, both with marks that tied her personal record at 1.70 meters/5 feet 7-inches. She also placed fourth in the shot put at both meets with throws of 12.71 meters/41 feet 8.50-inches and 12.68 meters/41 feet 7.25-inches, respectively, and set a personal record of 2:14.94 in the 800m run to place 16th at the GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 13. Chauchard maintains a 3.73 GPA in an individualized studies program.
Frauhammer is a psychology major with a 3.67 GPA. She competed in five meets for the Eagles, with her highest finish coming from an eighth-place 3000m at the Simmons Invitational, Jan. 17, in 10:36.59. She set her personal record in the event a week later, crossing the line in 10:22.59 to take 17th at the Notre Dame Invitational, and took 18th in the 5000m at the conference meet in 18:02.54
Klimovich competed in seven meets for the Green and White. Notably, she ran on the 4x400m relay team at the MAC Championships that clinched the team title for Eastern in a three-point victory over Akron. The senior finished second in the 800m at both the EMU Holiday Meet and the CMU Tri Meet in 2:15.99 and 2:17.63, respectively, and also competed in the 400m with a personal best of 58.09 seconds at the EMU Quadrangular. Klimovich holds a 3.35 GPA in electronic media and film studies.
A psychology major who holds a 3.44 GPA, Knoll continued her strong senior season as Eastern's top 800m runner. She was named to the All-MAC First Team after being a member of the winning distance medley relay that claimed the title at the MAC Championships in 11:39.65 and also took fourth in the 800m at the conference meet in 2:12.33. She set her personal record in the event at the SPIRE Invitational, Feb. 13-14, with a time of 2:11.68 to rank ninth on EMU's all-time list. She also made the record books in the mile run, notching the 10th-fastest time in program laurels after clocking in at 4:53.45 at the Meyo Invitational.
McKinney holds a 3.37 GPA in communication, and saw action in seven meets. She picked up a win in the 200m at the CMU Tri meet in 25.08 seconds, and set a personal record in the event at the MAC Championships after crossing the line at 24.53 seconds for fourth. She also took fourth in the 60m in 7.59 seconds. Additionally, she placed in the top-10 in all seven of her 60m appearances and half of her 200m competitions. McKinney also ran a leg of the 4x400m relay team that clinched the team victory for Eastern.
Pollatz competed as a pole vaulter and long jumper for the Eagles, competing in nine meets for the Eagles. The sophomore set personal records in the pole vault in all five appearances leading up to the MAC Championships with a career-best clearance of 3.88 meters/12 feet 8.75-inches to finish second at the GVSU Big Meet. In the long jump, Pollatz placed in the top-10 in five of her six appearances, with a season-high finish at the EMU Holiday Meet with a third-place finish. Pollatz holds a 3.88 GPA in journalism.
Quaintance is pursuing a degree in general business and maintains a 3.59 GPA. She ran in eight meets for the Eagles, placing in the top-10 in three 800m races. Quaintance ran a personal-best 2:16.85 at the Meyo Invitational, and took fifth in the event at the Silverston Invitational in 2:19.17, Feb. 21. She also ran on three 4x400m relays, with the fastest finish being a 4:02.67 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
Uy has already been honored by the conference for her athletic and scholastic prowess, as she was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week on Dec. 10 after winning the pole vault with a personal best of 4.04 meters/13 feet 3-inches for the fourth-best vault in EMU history. She set four personal records in the 60m hurdles, the fastest time being an 8.84 at the Notre Dame Invitational to finish sixth before matching that time in the pentathlon at the Akron Invitational. She went on to take seventh in the pentathlon with a personal record of 3,311 points. At the MAC Championships, Uy took fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.88 meters/12 feet 8.75-inches. She boasts a 3.89 GPA in communication.
Voronko was named to the All-MAC First Team after winning the 5000m in 16:46.20 and anchoring the winning distance medley relay team shortly thereafter on the first day of the MAC Championships. She also took second in the mile in 4:51.68 and finished fourth in the 3000m in 9:38.13. To open up her season, Voronko won the 5000m in a personal record and then-EMU record of 16:28.60. She also picked up wins in the mile and the 3000m at the CMU Tri Meet, for which she was named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 3. Voronko holds a 3.78 GPA in physical education.
Capping off the list of student-athletes is Waisner, who threw in nine meets for the Eagles. She won the weight throw at the Silverston Invitatonal with a personal record of 16.59 meters/47 feet 10.50-inches, wich ranks third on EMU's all-time list. Waisner also picked up runner-up finishes at the EMU Quadrangular and CMU Tri Meet. She holds a 3.51 GPA in communication.
