Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova continued their stellar start to 2015-16

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team continued play at the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional Friday, Oct. 23, as singles play progressed, while doubles action started at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. Eastern's top doubles squad of sophomore Andrea Martinovska (Plzn, Czech Republic-Sport and Management School) and senior Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) remained alive following a victory in the second round of the doubles main draw.

The day began with the Eagles' lone singles match. Martinovska was playing to make the semifinals of the qualifying draw, however the sophomore dropped a three set, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, decision at the hands of Akron's Adriana Blinova.

Eastern had three doubles teams playing in the main draw with the Martinovska/Supejova duo receiving a bye into the second round. In the first round, Renu Sharma (Fardabad, India) and Anna Veleva (Sofia, Bulgaria) dropped an 8-6 decision at the hands of Akron's Karolina Maksimova and Sophia Geier, while Ani Gogvadze (Tbilisi, Georgia-Khikhani) and Maria Paula Ribero (Bucaramanga, Colombia) advanced on the back of an 8-7 victory over Youngstown State's Julianna Heino and Nehel Sahni. After their victory, Gogvadze and Ribero were knocked out of the tournament following an 8-2 setback by Michigan's Brienne Minor and Mira Ruder-Hook. Following their bye Martinovska and Supejova dispatched of Illinois' Jade Hilton and Deniela Pedraza Novak, 8-3. Sharma and Veleva retired in the doubles consolation rounds Friday afternoon.

The only Eagles to remain in action Saturday, Oct. 24, at the regional are Martinovska and Supejova. The doubles duo will square off with Wisconsin's Maria Avgerinos and Lauren Chypyha in the main doubles draw round of 16, while Supejova will also begin her singles play in the main singles draw.
