Eastern Michigan Releases Top Stories of 2013-14 Season

Eastern Michigan Athletics will countdown to the top 14 moments of the 2013-14 athletic year
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - For the first time ever, Eastern Michigan University Athletics will be counting down the top stories of the 2013-14 athletic year. The list will be released one at a time throughout the summer until the No. 1 story of the 2013-14 year is announced Monday, July 21.
The schedule for release of each of the top-10 is listed below, but before here is a look at a few notable moments that just missed the countdown.
Men's Swimming and Diving Extends MAC Dual Win Streak to 66
Eastern Michigan University's men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2013-14 Mid-American Conference dual slate with a decision over Miami University, extending its current MAC dual win streak to 66 consecutive victories. The Eagles topped the Redhawks, 175-125, in the final head-to-head meet of the campaign, Feb. 1. (FOR FULL RELEASE CLICK HERE)
Baseball Takes Down No. 16 Clemson in Season Opener
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team won its first season-opening game since the 2010 season as the Eagles snuck past the No. 16-ranked Clemson University Tigers, 6-5, in 10 innings, Feb. 14. The Eagles (1-0) used a four-run sixth to take their first lead of the game before scoring a run in the 10th to get the victory at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson, S.C. The Green and White last won its season opener Feb. 22, 2010, in a 3-1 decision over No. 25 Kansas in the Metrodome. Melissa Gentile Hired as Seventh Softball Coach in EMU History
Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke announced Monday, July 29, that former EMU assistant coach Melissa "Skeeter" Gentile has been selected to lead the softball program. Her first official day at EMU will be Aug. 19, 2013. Gentile (pronounced gin-TIL-ee) brings five years of NCAA Division I coaching experience with one year as a head coach at Jacksonville University and four years as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University and EMU. Most recently, she has spent the past seven years as the owner/director of Powerline Softball in Clearwater, Fla. In total, she has tutored 28 NCAA All-Conference, 18 All-Region and numerous high school All-American selections. (FOR FULL RELEASE CLICK HERE)
Rowing Picks Up Dual Victory Over Drake
The Eastern Michigan University rowing squad wrapped up competition at the 19th annual Don Lubbers Cup Regatta at the Spring Lake Yacht Club Sunday, April 13. After a short weather delay, the Eagles picked up their first dual victory of the 2013-14 season, defeating Drake on the water in the Varsity 8 race. The win not only marked the first of the season for the Green and White, but its first ever victory at the Lubbers Cup in its five years of participation. (FOR FULL RELEASE CLICK HERE)
Steve Wilce Announces Retirement
Eastern Michigan University Head Gymnastics Coach Steve Wilce, one of the longest tenured coaches in the history of intercollegiate athletics at EMU, has announced his retirement effective July 1, 2014. Wilce's name is synonymous with Eastern Michigan gymnastics, as his involvement with the program spans more than three decades. Leading the program the past 32 seasons, he compiled a 228-222 record and is the winningest coach in EMU gymnastics history. For his career, Wilce produced 22 Mid-American Conference individual champions, three MAC Gymnasts of the Year and a 2007 MAC team championship. His peers in the MAC recognized him three times as the MAC Coach of Year, in 1987, 1989 and 1992. (FOR FULL RELEASE CLICK HERE)
